Coming Home Phone Call

Hi. This is Jonathan's mom again. Jonathan and his companion are still on lockdown in their apartment, but they were given permission to call their families today and also on Friday, and every Tuesday and Friday after than until they get home.

So, he called about 7:30 this morning and we were able to talk to him for about 30 minutes. President Camejo, his mission president, invited us to pray with our missionary, and that was a very sweet experience. Jonathan sounded really good. He is, of course, disappointed to be leaving Argentina, especially after having been there only 2 months or so. He has already grown to love the people there. He has had such amazing experiences and has really grown as a person as well.

They have been very isolated in their apartment, just to two of them. He said he's glad he and his companion get along so well, because otherwise it would be a real challenge. They only have flip phones, and no internet or other technology, so haven't been able to teach their investigators, only talk on the phone. Both of their baptisms had to be cancelled due to the lockdown, but they're hoping they'll happen when the lockdown is lifted. They were able to talk to Maite's father and challenged him to prepare himself to baptize Maite, and he accepted the challenge, so that's amazing.

They do have a little DVD player in their apartment, so they've been able to watch church movies, and they get to have a conference call with the other missionaries in their district every night. They share scriptures and uplifting quotes and last night they had a trivia challenge, so that's been great.

They didn't know we had an earthquake here in Utah, and haven't heard anything about the outside world. They just know there's a worldwide pandemic and that missionaries are coming home. They had heard about the missionaries from the Philippines coming home, but they didn't know if they would come home the same way--on jumbo jets chartered by the church. We haven't heard any details yet.

So, that's the latest. We will post again when we hear any other news. I'm also posting President Camejo's email which he sent on Monday telling us we'd be able to talk on Tuesdays and Fridays.

Dear families,

Due to the social quarantine in Argentina the missionaries will not be able to leave their apartment to
speak with you. So, to encourage the missionaries - especially after giving them the news of their
upcoming return to their country of residence - we would like to inform you that we are temporarily
changing the rules of communication between themselves and their families, so that on Tuesdays
and Fridays there may be a communication by phone.

Tomorrow, being the first day, they will call you. Then, on Friday and on subsequent Tuesdays and
Fridays if necessary, you can also call them.

We ask that these calls be brief, that you be able to pray with them during the call and, above all, that
they comfort your heart and encourage you to trust in the Lord. We hope you can enjoy these
communications to strengthen your spirit and the spirit of the missionaries.

If you have difficulties talking to them, please contact us and we will do our best to help you.
Thanks for your support and help.

Sincerely,
President and Sister Camejo
Argentina Comodoro Rivadavia Mission
